New Drift 02:32
walking out of time to keep out of the dirt and realizing self-worth does it ever hurt to justify the means in coming back for more been chewing on the lure but why? what for? curtains closed so take a bow while the chamber waits take a stand as time allows suffer for the fame... go away falling back in line at least for today just do it for the pay it's dog-eat or decay though bite the hand that feeds swimming after dark while surfing with the sharks ash your cigar
2.
showing up when it's convenient for you but shrugged off as something that you always do but how long will that pass as an excuse? the only colors painted were the black and blues... It's a theme park set off the trail building castles with no sand pail we better get out of the rain starting to catch on to this ruse and witnessing first hand subtle abuse to think that i really liked you until the flaunting like a 'well to-do' on a soapbox bound off the rails telling stories missing details is pride more important than pain? and i can see it now what you're all about a sucker looking for a quick in once i read aloud the writing on the town a sucker betting on a quick win
3.
Raised Beds 03:16
built a life outside this one inside my mind i was always told good things would come in time but i'm checking my watch to find out it's not right tracing my steps to and from the garage and car it turns out i never left the house or yard reflecting pools surround me from afar everything these days all seem... too stark or in the dark they shine, then miss the mark it could be as easy as seen on tv kicking a ball back and forth in the street a twig in a nest or just floating downstream? everything's what you make it to be... can't you see? it's easy, and carefree painted it all blue just to watch it dry planted seeds of grass to lay under the sky i've been pulling up the shades on my mind's eye
4.
i did my time packed it up and stayed inside while you provided nervousness and you're unfazed believing the family is safe you're clearly not serious "let's all calm down and watch tv" mom makes a casserole just like it used to be not long ago, maybe three weeks you won't see me indefinitely
5.
turn around i want off, fall to the ground i remember the day don't stay too long, but long enough to say every little detail that was ever in the way and when you say it's getting better everyday i know it's not better now time allows to board it up or burn it down it's all been a fray don't stray too far, but far enough away but know the loudest echo is often softened by delay and when you say it's getting better everyday i hope you are better now
6.
isn't it lovely... we have the chance to be smiling limb to limb in a pool of dopamine and when i'm down, you're out, take to the roof and shout "i'd rather be at home with you than somewhere else" i ask myself "is this real?" it's not everyday you feel submerged, feeling warm in a field of chamomile in a war of minds, some things can't be defined take with a grain of salt, rinse, repeat, unwind take it from me i am what you see you always bring four seasons of spring

Civic Mimic is Jeff Hersch’s (ex-Casual, Glazer) contribution to the emerging solo quarantine project genre. The EP can be characterized as a tribute to the early 90s but filtered through the pop punk stylings of the last decade which Hersch is famous for. The first two tracks give off a strong Nirvana vibe. It is almost as if the two tracks were recorded by a group of friends that heard “Nevermind” in 1991 and decided to immediately start a band. This is, of course, not a bad thing.

The standout track is clearly “Raised Beds,” which is more reminiscent of the British alternative rock that was also popular in the early 90s (think the early Ride EPs), but with a lo-fi production quality. The track also hints at some elements of psychedelia, a most pleasant surprise. The track undeniably invites the listener to sit back and smoke that last bit of marijuana they’ve been hoarding during the lockdown.

Some of these themes are picking up in the closing “Four Seasons of Spring,” which offers a blend of the more grunge-inspired tracks and the early 90s British alt rock sensibilities.

“Domestic Wears” sounds like it could have been the long lost forgotten demo of a band that would have eventually enjoyed moderate mainstream success that would have fizzled out by 1995, but members decided to probably go to college instead of pursuing music full time.
